Who We Are

Midwest Veterans' Biomedical Research Foundation, (MVBRF) is a non-profit corporation (NPC) associated with the Kansas City VA Healthcare System, Wichita VA Healthcare System, and VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System. In 1988 Congress authorized the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers to establish non-profit foundations. The purpose of these foundations is to facilitate the receipt and administration of private sector funds for the support of VA research and education. Each non-profit corporation is an independent, State chartered, tax exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
As a result, the Kansas City Missouri VA Medical Center founded the Midwest Veterans’ Biomedical Research Foundation (MVBRF). Since November 1988, our purpose has been to facilitate research and educational programming by connecting governmental entities, industry, and foundations to the VA Medical Menters in Kansas City, Leavenworth, Topeka and Wichita .These connections support basic, clinical, and outcomes research that directly benefits Veterans today and in the future.
Our research is conducted through grants issued by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Defense (DoD), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), foundational partners like the Alzheimer's Association and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), and through pharmaceutical industry studies and philanthropic endeavors..
MVBRF serves the needs of our participants, researchers, and the medical community at large. We provide an array of services including grant and business management, human resources and clinical research support. Our employees provide the needed expertise for basic and patient centered research. They are the research technologists, scientists, nurses and clinical study coordinators that form the backbone of VA research. Our team support VA physicians and other staff in their search for innovative diagnostic and therapeutic cures for many diseases and illness - especially those that affect our Veterans.

Clinical Research

MVBRF supports investigators who have conducted hundreds of clinical trials in a variety of therapeutic areas. Our affiliated medical centers and their investigators have the experience and resources to perform clinical drug trials in animal models as well as inpatient and outpatient pre-clinical, Phase I, II, III, and IV trials and outcomes research.
